Advice To Improve The Google Ranking

One of the best ways to start building your organic rankings is to target local search terms which are relevant for your business. Local search terms are usually made up of a generic keyword with the addition of a local modifier, for example
  • Cosmetic dentist hollywood
  • Plumber Palo Alto
  • Air Conditioning Melbourne
Below I’ve put together some basic advice on how to get started in achieving top Google rankings for local key phrases.
1. Include your physical business address on each page
If your business is located in the city or suburb you’re trying to rank for, including your address in the footer of each page is an easy way to show Google your site is relevant for this location.
This means that if the majority of the content on your website is about air conditioning with every page also mentioning Melbourne, Google will see your website as more relevant to the query air conditioning Melbourne.
2. Use your location in meta title tags
Adding the location you’re targeting to the title tag of various pages is another way to quickly improve your local rankings. Many site owners fall into the trap of using their business name or very broad keywords in title tags, when bringing this down to a local focus can have a dramatic impact on rankings in less competitive industries. Using the air conditioning Melbourne example, your title tag could look something like this:
Air Conditioning Installation in Melbourne – Company Name
3. Get listed in local directories
Getting listed in local directories will help build incoming links to your site which are closely related to your industry and location. Some of my favourite local U.S. sites are listed below:
  • http://www.yellowpages.com/
4. Claim your Google places listing
This is a great base to start with in building your local rankings. Claiming your listing tells search engines that they have the most up to date information about your business which will improve the relevance of your URL for local search phrases.
By following this checklist you should have a strong foundation for achieving ranking success for local key phrases.
