Websites On Children Rights Lounched

The Child Rights Legal Centre has set up a website to provide information about matters relating to child rights in Pakistan. Dawn reported that the website Pakistan.childrightsdesk.com was structured along the lines of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) monitoring framework, and will help government institutions and civil society organizations monitor the compliance of CRC within the country. It was also highlighted that the current legislative framework, which regulates child rights domestically, is outdated, lacks crucial details and does not fully incorporate international standards for the protection of children.
Although not all of the millions of e-mails sent and received everyday can be checked, authorities are, nonetheless, working towards making cyber monitoring a permanent feature of their operations. Relevant divisions of at least three security agencies have received instructions to monitor all forms of 'text' that could lead them to a terrorist source.
Previously these departments had been monitoring Pakistan's internet traffic and now, they have further intensified their Web watch by gathering useful information not only about domestic residents, but also about overseas Pakistanis.
A video-conferencing system set up by the Sindh information technology department was inaugurated last month by Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah, with a call to Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan and various district coordination officers (DCO).
According to The News, the project was initiated on the orders of President Asif Ali Zardari, in order to regularly assess the performance of the DCOs and the functionaries of all provincial departments. It will also be connected with the offices of the president and the prime minister of Pakistan.
The system will be linked with the health department so that patients from remote areas can receive better treatment from adept and well-known doctors in the cities. It was further mentioned that the system should also be linked to other sectors to help solve problems in hours instead of days.
