EMBEDDED COMPUTERS

An embedded computer is a special-purpose computer that functions as a component in a larger product. Embedded computers are everywhere — at home, in your car, and at work. The following list identifies a variety of everyday products that contain embedded computers.
•Consumer Electronics: mobile and digital telephones, digital televisions, cameras, video recorders, DVD players and recorders, answering machines
•Home Automation Devices: thermostats, sprinkling systems, security monitoring systems, appliances, lights
•Automobiles: antilock brakes, engine control modules, airbag controller, cruise control
•Process Controllers and Robotics: remote monitoring systems, power monitors, machine controllers, medical devices
•Computer Devices and Office Machines: keyboards, printers, faxes, copiers Because embedded computers are components in larger products, they usually are small and have limited hardware. These computers perform various functions, depending on the requirements of the product in which they reside. Embedded computers in printers, for example, monitor the amount of paper in the tray, check the ink or toner level, signal if a paper jam has occurred, and so on. Figure shows some of the many embedded computers

  1. Thanks for giving me some ideas about embedded computers. This explains who would usually use this and what devices that fit for this system. Embedded computer systems are commonly used in computer devices and office machines, electronics such as smartphone, digital televisions, camera or video recorders, DVD players and recorders and even for answering machines. It’s also used for home automation devices like thermostats, sprinkling systems and security monitoring systems. The automobiles are using this system for antilock brakes, engine control modules, airbag controller and cruise control. The ideas of using embedded system are good also for improving the process controllers and robotics of remote monitoring systems, power monitors, and machine controllers. Even in the medical devices it helps ease to do the task for various medical procedures such as surgeries and x-rays.Really, an embedded computer system is designed to do one or few particular tasks. It is a combination of hardware and software which makes a dedicated computer system that performs specific, pre-defined tasks.
